And please remember me...

I'm going to see Iron and Wine tonight with Chris at the Electric Factory in Philadelphia. If he plays "Trapeze Swinger," I may cry. Just saying.

Wedding Wednesday: Rings

A few months ago, Chris and I were having a debate about wedding rings. He doesn't like them. I think they're a nice tradition. He said that he didn't like traditional silver or gold wedding bands, so I started looking for alternatives to see if we could find something we both liked. That was when I came across these wooden wedding bands from Stout Woodworks. The best news? We both love them! Here are a few of my favorites.

Wedding Wednesday: The Dress

My grandma was married on February 2nd, 1954 in St. Petersburg, Florida. She was 21 years old and my grandfather was 22 (the same ages that Chris and I are right now). Their wedding is definitely my inspiration for vintage wedding style. Today, I'd like to point out my grandma's dress and how simple and lovely it is.

I absolutely love tea length 1950s wedding dresses like my grandma's. Especially poofy, lacy dresses with sleeves. With vintage weddings rising in popularity (particularly on wedding blogs like Ruffled and 100 Layer Cake), I've seen a lot of brides opting for this simple feminine style. Here are three of my favorites from around the internet:

Plated

{Pictured: Zombie Girl ($65), Mr. T ($52), School Portrait ($62)}

The Jealous Curator has served me well again by posting these amazing altered antique plates by LA based artist, Angela Rossi! Beautiful, bizarre, humorous, and slightly disorienting, these repurposed plates are a win in my book. Who doesn't like Mr. T, zombies, and animal heads on human bodies?  Especially under your pancakes. Angela's plates can be used for dining or display. You can find them in her Etsy shop - Beat Up Creations.

Gift Inspiration

Chris' birthday is coming up at the end of the month (the big 2-2), so I thought I'd do a post of gift ideas for the man in your life. Shopping for boys can be difficult. And, as a poor college student, I'm usually on a tight budget. Also, I generally like to give practical gifts. I want to give people something that they'll like and that they can use. Keeping these things in mind, here are a few gift ideas for the man in your life:

1. An awesome tee-shirt from Threadless. This has been my go-to gift for Chris for a few years now. There's a huge selection and a wide variety of designs, so you're sure to find something for everyone. The best part is that most are only $20, so they're easy on the wallet. {pictured}

2. For the sophisticated man - a very handsome and classy bow tie from Forage. They currently have two collections for sale: the vintage plaid collection and the mid-century collection. Both feature some amazing vintage-inspired designs. Unfortunately, the price tag is a bit high at $65 each. I've also seen these featured on a few wedding blogs recently, so if you're planning an upcoming wedding, especially one with a vintage theme (à la Ruffled), this may be the perfect accessory for your groom (and an excuse to drop the $65!). {pictured}

3. Nintendo controller prints from Renegade Handmade. I loovveee these! Perhaps the perfect addition to bring a touch of class to his bachelor pad. You can find them here, here, and here. I think they would be lovely as a collection, but if you're on a tight budget, they are only $20 each. {pictured}

4. Next is a green charging station from ModCloth. I love this design - the contrast between nature and technology and the sleek modern base (it comes in both white and black). It's a practical way for him to hide the wires from his iPod/phone charger (and to keep track of them) and it looks awesome! Find it here for $24.99.

5. Some fun, kitchsy homewares for his apartment/dorm/house! They're practical, funny, and make great conversation starters! I'm partial to the Pi ice cube tray ($8.99) from ThinkGeek because Chris is a Math and Economics major and I'm a Physics major, so we're all about the irrational mathematical constants (it's lame, I know), but there are a lot of other exotic ice cube shapes out there, too (such as dinosaur fossils, space invaders, and the Titanic). I also really enjoy this mustache coffee mug ($23.99) from ModCloth (here's a similar one for $12 at Urban Outfitters). And, last but not least, are these club sandwich coasters ($9.99) from ModCloth

Art! : Hollie Chastain

Hollie Chastain is a collage artist working in Chattanooga, Tennessee. I love the whimsical tone of her work and her versatility (I think you can really see this in the contrast of the two pieces pictured above and the two pieces pictured below). I've been admiring her work for a few months now, since I found her on The Jealous Curator. Actually, "admiring" is kind of an understatement. If I had a million dollars, I would have her collage all of the walls in my house so that I could live in her art (let's pretend that sounded less creepy). I would also like to have Samuel Beam follow me around all day playing Iron and Wine songs. Ahh, to dream... Anyways, prints of Hollie's work are available in her Etsy shop, Dr. Kennedy Jones and I am this close to buying one as an early birthday gift to myself. So hard to choose...

Shoe Envy

I love these hand painted, custom made Slip-Offs! I found them in the current issue of We Like We Love magazine (you can find the full article on p. 14 of the current issue). Each pair is hand painted by Canadian graphic designer, Shauna Mae Luedtke. So far, she has customized over 300 pairs (including a pair for Ellen DeGeneres!). Shauna is an amazing artist and hand paints each pair of slip-offs with a design of the customer's choosing.

The price is a bit steep at $180 per pair plus $30 shipping to the U.S. ($20 to Canada), but for something so beautiful and unique, I think its pretty reasonable. They would make a great gift for a close friend or family member (I would probably get a Calvin and Hobbes pair for Chris).

Definitely take a few minute to browse her past work (I got a little lost in there and looked at pretty much every single pair of shoes). I love the uniqueness and creativity of the designs (you can see some super unique and personal ones here and here). The best part is that you can be absolutely, positively sure that no one will be wearing the same shoes!
